Buhari, Sanusi, Others for NDC Graduation

President Muhammadu Buhari and Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, will be among the top dignitaries scheduled to attend the graduation of the 2016 National Defence College (NDC).

The Commandant of NDC, Rear Admiral Samuel Alade, disclosed this yesterday, while fielding questions from journalists shortly after a presentation by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, at the Colleged in Abuja.

Alade said the programme of the 2016 graduation would start with a world press conference on Friday, July 29 at the college auditorium and would be followed by a host of other activities.
He also used the opportunity to task participants on projecting a good image of the military in their future postings after their graduation from the college.

The commandant who described as unique, course 24 of the college, urged them to be good ambassadors of the college and the armed forces.

Alade said a lot was expected from the participants to find solutions to the complex challenges facing the military in order to move it forward.
He also reminded them that leadership was all about self discipline, handwork, dedication and good character.
He said: “It is my pleasure to draw from the CDS’s wealth of experience and a new leadership approach in carrying out our professional duty.

“I have no doubt in my mind that such a wonderful lecture will go a long way to assist the participants in their carrier.

“Course 24 is very lucky for the great opportunity they enjoyed all through the duration of their programme in having dignitaries talk to them.

“And in a short while we will be hosting the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at the graduation ceremony of the college,’’ he added.
Alade also commended the CDS for making the course possible through his timely intervention and support.
Earlier, Olonisakin in his presentation urged the participants to work hard and be dedicated in their future tasks.
He reminded the participants of the emerging trend in leadership development in the military which should cut across the three areas, strategic, operational and tactical.

“In the military actually what we do is to ensure that we secure the environment and the environment is occupied by the civil populace.
“So we need the confidence of officers in ensuring that this is achieved and we need them also in whatever we are doing, we do it right,” he said.

“Most times, tactical commanders are the ones that interface with the troops, if the strategic level does not interface properly with the operational tactics, they may get it wrong.
“That is why i posited in my lecture that it is important that the tactical level is continuously in touch with operational level in order to succeed together,’’ he stressed said.

The Defence chief said that even though strategic and operational levels used to be distinct, the modern approach employed and removed the distinction at the strategic level.
