By Sheriff Balogun in Abeokuta

Suspected Fulani herdsmen at the weekend invaded Ilewo-Orile community in Ogun State, killing three persons.

It was gathered that two of the victims, identified as Amosun Ogunronbi, and Owolabi Ogunronbi were siblings, while the third victim, was simply known as Philip.

While disclosing this to journalists, a source in the community, who did not want his name mentioned, said their community does witness similar attacks by rampaging Fulani herdsmen.

He said: “Philip was killed on Friday night after suspected herdsmen accosted him and snatched his motorcycle, mobile phone and some money.

“Philip is an Egun man. He went to work on Friday but didn’t return. When his wife was going to the market in Ibara-Orile at the weekend, she saw the dead body of her husband by the road side.”

However, the case was said to have been reported at the Lafenwa Police Station, Abeokuta and at the state police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Meanwhile, the source also disclosed that the murder of Ogunronbi occurred prior  tothe Friday incident, saying that the suspects carted away the victims’ motorcycle and cash.

According to the source, “Amosun went to collect some thrift savings in Ishaga-Orile and he asked his brother (Owolabi) to convey him there with his motorcycle. When they were coming back, Fulani herdsmen attacked them at about 8:30p.m. They hacked them to death.

“Some commercial motorcyclists who passed by later saw Amosun’s lifeless body by the road side and the raised the alarm.

All effort to confirm the incident from the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, proved abortive as he failed to pick his phone calls.
