Police Arrest Chinese Businessman, Accomplice for Attempted Assassination

The Lagos State Police Command at the weekend arrested a Chinese businessman, one Sun Ku and his accomplice, Chika Eze, a Nigerian, for  allegedly plotting to assassinate his business associate over some financial misunderstanding. Ku, who was paraded at the police command headquarters at Ikeja, was said to have contracted the assassination to Eze, at the cost of N1.4million, who in turn contracted two other persons to execute the job. Following a tip off to the police by one of those contracted, detectives swooped in and first arrested Eze at Lagos Island before rounding up all the other parties based on Eze’s confession. Preliminary investigations also revealed that Eze had already paid two of the assassins N400,000 as part payment before they were arrested in the room where they were taking a blood oath of secrecy.

Although he initially refused to speak to journalists, Ku who later opened up, said the money was not to kill his business associate, rather for charms to be prepared for him. Confirming the arrest, the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the police were able to recover the remaining N1million from the suspect after he had paid N400,000 to the executors. Owoseni, who said business misunderstandings are better resolved through dialogue and not assassination, added that the issue between the Chinese and his associate could have been resolved without resorting to criminality.
