Miva Open University Strengthens Robotics Education Through Partnership with Terra Industries
Miva Open University welcomed the CEO of Terra Industries, Nathan Nwachuku, to its Abuja campus on Wednesday, 29th July, 2026, for a courtesy visit celebrating the company’s contribution to the Miva Robotics Lab and reinforcing the partnership between the two organisations.
The visit formally acknowledged the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Miva Open University and Terra Industries, which establishes a framework for collaboration in robotics, drone technology, virtual reality, and applied engineering education.
During the visit, the Terra Industries delegation toured the Miva Robotics Lab, met with members of the university’s leadership and technical teams, and participated in a plaque presentation recognising the company’s support for expanding practical technology education at Miva.
Terra Industries is a Nigerian defence technology and robotics company that designs and manufactures autonomous hardware, including surveillance drones, AI-powered sentry towers, and mine-detection vehicles. Founded in 2024, the company has rapidly grown into one of Africa’s emerging engineering firms, developing technologies used to protect critical infrastructure and strengthen defence capabilities across the continent.
The CEO of Terra Industries, Nathan Nwachukwu, said, “We must build the academia-industrial pipeline to sustain Africa’s drone industrial base. Students will learn to design, build, and fly drones as part of their academic programmes. With Nigeria’s parliament’s recent motion for a National Drone Industrial Policy, the Terra-Miva partnership will fill the talent gap.”
The partnership reflects Miva’s commitment to ensuring students gain practical experience alongside academic learning. Under the agreement, both organisations will jointly establish and develop integrated robotics, drone, and virtual reality (VR) laboratories, beginning with a pilot facility at Miva’s Abuja campus.
The laboratories will provide students with hands-on training in robotics design and assembly, embedded systems, electronics integration, drone operations, systems testing, and other emerging technologies. Students will have opportunities to build, test, and develop solutions that address real-world engineering challenges while learning from industry practitioners.
Beyond laboratory development, the collaboration will support student research, innovation challenges, hackathons, faculty development, and industry-led technical workshops. The partnership also creates pathways for internships, mentorship, and potential employment opportunities for outstanding Miva students, helping to align university education with the skills required in today’s technology and engineering industries.
Speaking on the significance of the partnership, Miva Open University reaffirmed its commitment to building learning environments that prepare students for the future of work through practical, industry-relevant education.
Over the next four years, Miva Open University and Terra Industries will work together to strengthen engineering education, support innovation, and equip students with the practical skills needed for careers in technology across Nigeria and Africa.
