The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu, Rt. Rev. Prof. Samuel Ike, has said that the forthcoming 3rd Session of the 19th Synod of the Diocese will not only focus on spiritual revival but also on critical national issues affecting Nigeria.

Addressing journalists ahead of the Synod yesterday, Bishop Ike said that the event, themed ‘Revival Levels: A Prepared Heart to Study, to Do and to Teach the Word of God’, comes at a crucial time for both the church and the nation.

The cleric lamented the persistence of poor governance despite the proliferation of churches across the country, stressing that genuine revival has the capacity to transform societies and even entire nations.

“There are thousands of churches, as it were, yet we continue to experience misgovernance and misrule. God is willing to answer, but we need to cleanse our hearts, our lives, our communities and the hearts of our leaders,” he stated.

The Bishop explained that the Synod will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Ogbete, Enugu, from June 24 to June 28, 2026. He described the venue as historically significant, noting that it is where the diocese began and that the church is hosting the Synod for the fifth time.

He disclosed that renowned evangelist Gbile Akanni will serve as guest preacher from the opening day on Wednesday through Friday, while former Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, will anchor the Synod Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, June 28.

Bishop Ike said that the Synod would address pressing national concerns, including governance, democracy, electricity supply, insecurity, the economy, education, the delayed Eastern Rail Project and preparations for the 2027 general elections.

“We respect men and defer to those in authority, but we will speak the truth about what is happening in our nation so that those who have ears to hear may listen,” he said.
