Alveena Masterclass 2026 Bridges Creative Talent and Commercial Success in Africa’s Event Industry
The Alveena Masterclass 2026, held over five intensive days in Abuja, brought together event professionals from Nigeria and several African countries to address a critical gap in the continent’s creative industry: the divide between artistic excellence and sustainable commercial success.
The programme, themed “Start Smart, Earn More,” was organised by Dr. Oladipupo Akinkunmi and Arc. Mrs. Tolulope Oladipupo, owners of Alveena Events. It deliberately targeted the challenge where talented creatives produce stunning work but struggle to build profitable, structured businesses. “The primary gap we addressed was the disconnect between creative talent and commercial viability,” said Dr. Oladipupo Akinkunmi. “Too often, African event professionals are exceptional artists but struggle to build sustainable business structures. With our theme ‘Start Smart, Earn More,’ we moved beyond just teaching decoration; we focused on bridging the gap between local talent and global wealth.”
Participants were guided to reframe their identity from “decorators” to “event designers” and “creative directors” capable of commanding premium fees, executing structural installations, and competing in the global luxury market. “We wanted to transition attendees from seeing themselves merely as ‘decorators’ to becoming ‘event designers’ and ‘creative directors’ who can command premium value,” Arc. Mrs. Tolulope Oladipupo explained.
Abuja’s selection as host city underscored its rising status as a hub for creative and experiential excellence. “We chose Abuja because it is rapidly becoming the ‘heartbeat of African innovation,’” Dr. Oladipupo Akinkunmi noted. “Abuja offers a unique blend of cultural heritage and modern luxury that aligns perfectly with our vision of ‘Nigeria to the World.’ The presence of delegates from countries like Cameroon, France, Benin, and Tanzania confirms that Abuja is no longer just a political capital, but a central hub for the African creative economy and a destination for experiential tourism.”
A major focus was correcting the “busy but broke” mindset. “The biggest mistake we observed was the ‘busy but broke’ syndrome—creatives who execute beautiful work but lack a pricing formula or brand positioning to be profitable,” Arc. Mrs. Tolulope Oladipupo highlighted. “We shifted that mindset by treating event design as architecture and engineering.”
The masterclass spotlighted emerging trends, particularly the fusion of art, design, and indigenous African heritage in luxury events. “A major trend we spotlighted was the convergence of ‘Art Meets Design,’” Dr. Oladipupo Akinkunmi said. “We believe the future of luxury events lies in storytelling that incorporates our indigenous heritage. Modern luxury isn’t just about importing Western trends; it’s about creating bespoke, art-driven installations that reflect African excellence.”
Participants left equipped with practical tools, including the “Business Design Pricing Formula” and portfolio-ready work from hands-on sessions. Looking ahead, the organisers envision long-term impact. “We see Alveena Masterclass as the catalyst for a ‘Global Wealth Integration’ movement,” Dr. Oladipupo Akinkunmi concluded. “Over the next few years, we expect our alumni to dominate not just local markets but the global stage, exporting African event excellence to the world.”
The event, led by Dr. Oladipupo Akinkunmi and Arc. Mrs. Tolulope Oladipupo of Alveena Events, has positioned the masterclass as a key driver in professionalising and monetising creative talent across Africa’s growing events and hospitality sector.
