YIBA Hosts Press Conference to Mark International Day of Women and Girls in Science
In commemoration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (STEM), Yes I Believe Academy, YIBA held a press conference which brought together distinguished leaders and advocates who have consistently championed the advancement of women and girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Founded by Adeniyi Adekunle and Michael Awosemo, Yiba leads with a vision to empower a generation of Nigerian youths and children as 360-degree individuals – confident, skilled, and self-aware leaders who navigate local challenges and thrive on the global stage, driving innovation and positive change in Africa and beyond.
The press conference which was virtual was attended by distinguished women who have accomplished remarkable heights in their careers as well as students who are keen on learning and exemplify themselves in the ever revolving STEM world. Among the notable speakers was Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE, Immediate Past President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, whose tenure was marked by a strong commitment to inclusivity and professional excellence within the engineering sector. She spoke throughly about her experiences and how it shaped her into becoming whose she is today. Her story and track record was quite applauded by the students and guests.
Also present was Dr. Tewa Onasanya, Founder and CEO of Exquisite Magazine and the ELOY Awards, widely recognized for her work in empowering women entrepreneurs and reshaping mindsets for leadership and impact. Mrs. Oreoluwa Somolu Lesi, Founder and Executive Director of the Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to building technology capacity and digital confidence among girls and women.
The press conference led by these speakers spotlighted the importance of increasing female participation in STEM fields, addressing systemic barriers, and promoting policies and initiatives that create equal opportunities for women and girls in science and technology. The female students in attendance were completely charged for what’s ahead and with such impressive resume it sure did prove they can also do it.
Through this gathering, YIBA was able to reinforce the global call for gender equity in STEM while celebrating the achievements of women who continue to break barriers and inspire the next generation. Ahead of its conference next month the press briefing serves as a forerunner example of the impact the organization seeks to achieve.
