As part of its support, CIG Motors has committed 11 vehicles, the rally’s largest contingent, to lead and support the journey, alongside the deployment of an international documentary team to capture the route, the people, and the culture that define Argungu.

The flag off was led by Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning and former Governor of Kebbi State, alongside Chief Diana Chen, the Chairman of GIG Motors, reflecting strong public and private sector collaboration in support of cultural heritage, tourism, and economic activity.

Federal representation was also present, with Dr Jumoke Oduwole, Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, represented at the ceremony, while remarks were delivered by Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council.

In her remarks, Chief Diana Chen said:

“Nigeria is my home. Its people and culture have welcomed me, strengthened me, and given me a deep sense of belonging. As a triple high chief, I carry this honour with humility and responsibility. As Chairman of one of the leading automobile companies in Nigeria, I am honoured to join you for the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, and to participate in the flag off of the Argungu Motor Rally 2026. Argungu stands as one of Nigeria’s oldest cultural traditions, and we are proud to be part of what it represents.”

The rally journey will travel across key cities and states on the route from Abuja through Kaduna, Kano, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, and onward to Argungu, building momentum ahead of the festival and demonstrating vehicle capability across real intercity conditions.

Chief Diana Chen congratulated Dr Nasir Idris, Executive Governor of Kebbi State, on sustaining and elevating Argungu as a national cultural institution. She also commended Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, Deputy Governor of Kebbi State and Chairman of the festival’s central planning committee, an Argungu son, on continuing the tradition of hosting and strengthening the festival and motor rally as platforms of national pride and cultural continuity.

Diana further welcomed the expected presence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing his anticipated attendance as a national honour and a powerful affirmation of the importance of culture, unity, and local enterprise in Nigeria’s national story.
