Paternity dispute: How I got to know about my son’s alleged daughter — Davido’s father

…says several DNA tests returned negative

…accuses blogger of using minor’s name to attack his family

Dr. Deji Adeleke, father of Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, at a press briefing on Wednesday, displayed results of DNA tests and read text messages to prove that his son, Davido, is not the father of a controversial girl, Aanu.

He also disclosed that a sister of the lady who gave birth to Aanu informed him that the social media accounts alleging that his son abandoned the girl and her mother, one Ayo Labinjo, were opened and managed by social media personality, Ms Kemi Olunloyo, without the family’s consent.

Dr Adeleke, who read copiously from WhatsApp and text messages from the lady’s sister, said the girl in question was not his son’s child as proved by DNA tests conducted in different hospitals in Lagos.

Adeleke, while addressing the press conference which was held at his Lagos home, explained that he first got to know about the case in 2014 when he received a letter from a lawyer in Ibadan informing him that his son, David, got a lady (Ayo Labinjo) pregnant and abandoned the child.

Explaining the reasons for the press conference, Adeleke said he has 14 grandchildren and still expects more, but would not overlook the place of DNA in ascertaining the paternity of any child.

“I have 14 grandchildren, so, what will one more do? Is it that I will not be able to afford to do things for her or bring her into my family? I want more grandchildren, but there is science. DNA. If you say you are my granddaughter and science has proven that you are my granddaughter. I would gladly accept her,” he said.

While giving details about the lawyer’s letter, Adeleke said what caught his attention in the document received in 2014 which contained a picture of the child, Davido and Ayo Labinjo, was the birth certificate of the child.

“And in that mail also, curiously; there was a birth certificate of the child. And what caught my attention was that in the record of the birth certificate, it said full name of father: Adeleke David, full name of mother: Adeleke Ayotomide. How can she be Adeleke?,” the businessman asked.

Speaking on the steps taken after getting to know about Davido’s alleged daughter, Adeleke said three DNA tests were conducted for Davido with results of two coming out negative while samples for the third one were declared contaminated and spoilt.

He further explained that the thought of a possible mistake of identity between Davido and his cousin, Adebayo David Adeleke, known as B-Red, pushed the famiiy to also conduct two tests for the latter which also proved negative.

“Immediately I saw this letter, even before calling David. I called this woman and I said, ‘Look, I’m not speaking to my son yet but I’m going to speak to him. But I’ll suggest to you to give me your address in Ibadan. I’ll send my driver to come and know where you live but I can assure you that if this girl is my granddaughter, you have no problems with me, I’ll welcome her into my family happily. She was happy. She gave me her address and I gave the address to my driver,” he further said.

Continuing, Adeleke narrated how his driver went to Ibadan the next day to know where they lived and upon agreement, a DNA test was subsequently arranged at the partner clinic of Vedic Hospital in Lekki which promised to send the samples to South Africa for analysis.

“And I called her, gave her the information that anytime they were ready, I will send my driver to pick you up from Ibadan. So, on the appointed day, I sent my driver to Ibadan. Very early, my driver brought the mother of the child, the grandmother and the baby. The three of them came.

“And because my driver knows Vedic Hospital, they were already there before I came in with David, because I asked David to come here, and Lati, his aide. So David, myself and Lati went and we met them at Vedic Hospital. We went upstairs where the samples were taken.”

Adeleke clarified that the DNA process involved collection of the child’s and Davido’s saliva samples and not blood as wrongly claimed on social media.

“So we were all in the same room and he (doctor) told us the procedure. It was not blood. I’ve read on social media that they were drawing blood. It’s not. It was not done by blood. It was from their saliva in their mouth. And he told us that these samples would be sent to South Africa for analysis. And when it’s ready, myself and the grandmother signed. Grandmother of the baby signed that both of us would be the ones to receive the result.”

Dr Adeleke said when the result came, it said there was 0.00 possibility that Davido was the girl’s father. Another test, he said also turned negative.

He disclosed, however, that despite the results of the tests, and based on the requests made by the girl’s family, he has been sponsoring the child’s education and that of her mum at the university. He, however, disclosed that the lady stopped schooling after two sessions while the girl has finished her primary school education.

Reading from a whatsapp message sent to him by the lady’s sister who is based in Abuja, Dr Adeleke said he had been informed that Kemi Olunloyo had been the one using the lady’s and her child’s names to open social media accounts to attack and defame the family.
