Nepal Energies Chart Africa’s New Trade Frontier

At the Mentor Matchup Challenge 7.0 (MMC 7.0), Regional Director of Nepal Energies, Mr. Nnamdi Obiagwu, delivered a keynote address on behalf of Group Managing Director of Nepal Energies, Barr. Mrs. Ngozi Ekeoma. He showcased the company’s transformation from a modest middleman operation in 2006 to a multinational energy trading powerhouse with operations across West and Southern Africa.

He highlighted that humble beginnings do not determine future potential. “Your starting point does not limit your future. Vision, adaptability, and investment in assets are the real drivers of long-term growth,” he said.

In his keynote address, Nnamdi highlighted that mentorship, agility, resilience, and calculated risk-taking enabled Nepal Energies’ growth in the past two decades.

He outlined how the company scaled strategically: moving from trucking, to marine logistics, acquiring operational assets, and investing in both human capital and regional partnerships.

Observing recent market disruptions, particularly the Dangote Refinery, Nnamdi emphasized the importance of anticipating change and seizing opportunities to diversify beyond Nigeria’s borders.

In 2023, Nepal Energies expanded continentally, establishing operations in South Africa, Zambia, and Mozambique. “If global brands could invest here for decades, then it was time for Nigerian companies to do the same across Africa,” he said. This expansion reflects Nepal’s belief that African businesses can scale globally while leading the continent’s energy economy.

Nnamdi also stressed that equitable trade requires cross-border collaboration. “Our expansion into Southern Africa reflects the belief that African businesses can compete, lead, and build bridges across the continent,” he affirmed.

Nnamdi urged African entrepreneurs to embrace a mindset grounded in grit, adaptability, mentorship, and vision. “The real bridges to be built are not only between countries and markets, but between people who dare to dream beyond their beginnings,” he said.
