Insecurity: NBM Commends Rescue Efforts, Wants Unified Action
The Neo Black Movement (NBM) of Africa, Lekki, Lagos chapter, has applauded the recent rescue of several abducted Nigerians, describing the operation as a welcome development and a demonstration of what is possible when government and security agencies act with urgency and determination.
However, the Movement stressed that the severity of insecurity nationwide demands a more coordinated, sustained, and aggressive response to protect the lives of millions of Nigerians who remain vulnerable to kidnappings, terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes.
Speaking on the issue, the President of NBM of Africa, Lekki chapter, Erauyi Agbon-Ifo, noted that the successful rescue has rekindled hope among citizens, many of whom have endured fear, trauma, and repeated attacks in recent months.
“We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our security agencies for securing the release of abducted citizens. This shows that with the right commitment, coordination, and political will, Nigeria can win the fight against insecurity,” Agbon-Ifo said.
Despite this progress, he emphasised that the country requires more than isolated interventions to reverse the rising tide of violence.
He further called for all Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, the Civil Defence Corps, and all security formations to act as one cohesive force with shared intelligence, shared responsibility, and a clear mandate to dismantle crime networks across the nation.
NBM of Africa, Lekki chapter,, also urged the Lagos State Government to heighten its internal security operations, especially in major business districts, residential communities, transportation hubs, and border entry points.
Agbon-Ifo noted that as the nation’s economic epicentre and most densely populated state, Lagos must strengthen surveillance, community policing, and rapid-response systems to deter criminals and reassure residents.
He added that improved collaboration among the Lagos State Government, security agencies, and community structures would help curb localised incidents of crime as the year comes to an end.
As the Yuletide season approaches, a period historically associated with increased movement and higher criminal activity, the Movement appealed to Lagosians and all Nigerians to remain vigilant and prioritise their personal and community safety.
According to Agbon-Ifo, “Security is a collective responsibility. We encourage citizens to be alert, support local authorities, and report suspicious activities immediately.”
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and national stability, the Neo Black Movement of Africa, Lekki Chapter pledged continued support to the government through advocacy, community engagement, and sensitisation programmes aimed at promoting unity and security across the country.
Agbon-Ifo concluded by stating that: “Nigeria cannot thrive under constant threats. This is the time for bold, united action by government, security institutions, and the people to secure the future of our nation.”
Meanwhile, the group extended its warm wishes to all Nigerians for a peaceful, joyful, and safe yuletide season.
