Kurrious – “On the Road” EP: A story of love and Ambition

Olaniyi innocent omolola, the fast-rising Nigerian afrobeat artiste also known as kurrious has
released a four track EP titled “On the Road”. The project quickly attracted attention, showing
the artist’s ability to mix genres while producing a body of work that inspires and entertains in
the same way. For listeners not familiar with his work, Kurrious’ talent is inspired by legends in
the Nigerian music scene, from Fela Anikulapo Kuti to P-square and Plantashun Boiz. These
artists have helped affect his sound and informed his approach to music since his early days.
Known for blending Yoruba with English, Kurrious bridges the gap between his local audience
that serves as his source of inspiration, and an international audience attuned to the Afrobeats
sound. This is obvious on the “On the Road” EP, where he moves between both languages to
deliver beautiful lyrics that are rich in emotion and grounded in familiar experiences. Whether he
is expressing affection, thinking about his journey or giving thanks to God for his progress, these
recurring ideas shape the emotional core of “On the Road.”

The project opens with “No Worries,” a soft love song. Kurrious looks happy with his partner,
showing clearly his place in her heart, “My London girl loves me for who I am.” This is a
declaration many cannot confidently acknowledge in the current dating era, where love is often
based on lies. The song has an R&B feel with Afro Rhythm, allowing his voice to run smoothly
and draw listeners in. As he repeats, “No worries baby, no worries,” the track helps lovers to be
vulnerable and welcome trust.

“Later,” the second track, goes in a different direction. Here, Kurrious is fixed on making money,
and he is not interested in anything that doesn’t support that. Keyboard lines set the mood of the
song as they mix with heavy bass to give off strong sound true to the artist’s emotional delivery.
“The boy is working/ Boy no dey tire/ Now I’m bagging the trophies/ champion ever,” Kurrious
points to his work ethic, which is now paying off. He is experiencing the gains of hard work, and
to him, it is a lifelong win.

On “Boya,” Kurrious returns to themes of love. He is in search of a girl with perfect vibe to have
fun with; this he attests to with his lyrics, “We just come here to have fun, we no come here to
fight/ Yeah and I have been looking for a perfect girl with perfect vibe.” The track once again
leans on R&B elements, while his Yoruba cadence adds texture and authenticity to the sound.
Closing the EP is “Do Something.” The artist is not done with love; the woman now holds the
power. She sets expectations before offering affection, “Bobo do something/ Before you start to
dey chop something”. For someone who is interested in having a relationship with a girl,
catering to her needs is a vital aspect of the modern dating game. Its violin notes give it a light
highlife feel, making it different and memorable.

With “On the Road” EP, Kurrious put together a body of work that merges rich lyrics with
relatable themes. Through smooth R&B sound and light drums, the artist draws in listeners,
making them feel the depth of his talents, while suggesting even greater potential ahead. By exploring love, ambition, and catering for a love interest, Kurrious proves he is deeply in tune
with the experiences of his audience
