The House of Representatives member representing Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Chinedu, has empowered over 150 members of his constituents as a way of poverty alleviation programme.
The lawmaker while performing the landmark empowerment held at Oboama/Umunama Ward in Ezinihitte, Mbaise Local Government Area noted his action was to demonstrate an unflinching commitment to the welfare and progress of his people.
He said the reason to empower a significant number of his constituents was designed to transform their livelihoods as each recipient received essential tools for business and daily life, including a table, chair, umbrella, POS machine, and a direct cash grant of N200,000.
The distribution, conducted by the Moniepoint team through a transparent raffle draw, was carefully structured to ensure fairness, equity, and the elimination of bias.
In addition, staple food items like rice, garri, salt, and spaghetti were shared without a raffle draw, with the motive of spreading the items to reach more people in the community.
Chinedu who was popularly known as Mr. Project and now proudly called Mr. Empowerment, due to his effective representation through construction of several constituency projects also announced that his action was to kick-off a constituency-wide drive across all the 24 wards, beginning with his home ward.
He emphasized that the programme fulfills his campaign promises to provide both financial and material support throughout his second term.
He also emphasized inclusivity, declaring that “Whether APC, PDP, ADC, Labour, or APGA, everyone contributed, and would benefit. That is why we introduced a raffle draw, a method that has proven effective elsewhere.”
Beyond the day’s empowerment, the lawmaker revealed that many constituents have already secured federal job placements in key government agencies, with more opportunities on the horizon in the Civil Defence Corps, Correctional Service, Fire Service, Immigration Service, and NDE.
He explained that eligible applicants had previously been instructed to submit their details and assured that the list of beneficiaries would soon be made public.
In his ongoing representation, Hon. Chinedu has made history as the first legislator to execute life-transforming projects in all 24 wards of his constituency.
These include solar-powered streetlights, electric transformers, classroom blocks, health centres, town halls, erosion control works, and the establishment of skills acquisition centres.
He has also, through targeted skills acquisition programmes, trained and equipped numerous constituents with starter packs to support sustainable livelihoods.
His advocacy has been crucial in defending the rights of Ahiazu residents, particularly in cases where lives and property were allegedly threatened by security agents.
Leveraging his office, he has facilitated access to strategic financial support, including N500,000 loans through NIRSAL Microfinance Bank, N-Power opportunities, N30,000 stipends under the Federal Government’s 774 LGA Special Public Works Programme, and COVID-19 intervention funds.
In previous empowerment phases, he distributed motorbikes, vehicles, grinding machines, sewing machines, household appliances, and substantial cash support running into millions of naira, further solidifying his pledge to use public office as a platform for improving the standard of living of his people.
By consistently delivering on his promises, breaking partisan boundaries, and expanding opportunities for all, the federal lawmaker stands as a model of servant leadership, visionary in outlook, steadfast in purpose, and relentless in pursuing a brighter, more prosperous future for his people.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the lawmaker as they displayed dancing steps, sang songs, offering heartfelt prayers for the lawmaker, describing the empowerment as “a lifeline” and “an answer to long-standing prayers.”
