Rt. Hon. Ime Bassey Okon Celebrates Former Governor Udom Emmanuel, Commends His Legacy of Visionary Leadership

The Member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ime Bassey Okon, has joined the people of Akwa Ibom State and Nigerians at large in celebrating the immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, CON, on the occasion of his birthday.

In a goodwill message released in Abuja, Rt. Hon. Okon described Mr. Emmanuel as a distinguished leader, a builder of men and institutions, and one of Nigeria’s finest examples of transformational leadership.

“As you mark another milestone in life, I extend my warmest congratulations to Your Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, a statesman whose legacy continues to speak for itself,” he said.

Reflecting on the achievements of Mr. Emmanuel’s administration, Rt. Hon. Okon noted that the former governor’s tenure from 2015 to 2023 brought about a paradigm shift in governance and economic management in Akwa Ibom State.

The federal lawmaker acknowledged the massive infrastructural strides recorded during Mr. Emmanuel’s tenure, including the construction and dualisation of major roads and bridges across the state, linking communities and boosting trade and mobility.

He further commended the former governor for sustaining free and compulsory basic education, improving healthcare services through the renovation of general hospitals and the implementation of a state health insurance scheme, and for maintaining peace and stability throughout his administration.

Rt. Hon. Okon also praised Mr. Emmanuel for pioneering a bold and visionary move in Nigeria’s aviation sector with the successful establishment of Ibom Air — the first state-owned airline in the country — which has gained national recognition for excellence, punctuality, and service delivery. According to him, Ibom Air remains one of the most iconic legacies of the former governor’s tenure, positioning Akwa Ibom as a hub of regional air connectivity and economic opportunity.

“You did not only govern with excellence, but you redefined leadership through integrity, prudence, and focus. Your impact in aviation, education, healthcare, agriculture, and youth development remains visible and enduring,” Rt. Hon. Okon added.

He lauded Mr. Emmanuel’s commitment to good governance and his ability to steer the state through challenging economic times with calm, competence, and credibility.

“As you celebrate today, I join your family, friends, and well-wishers across Nigeria and beyond in thanking God for your life, your legacy, and the example you continue to set. May this new chapter usher in greater wisdom, divine strength, and fulfilment in all your endeavours,” he prayed.
