By Emmanuel Daraloye
On Sunday June 29, 2025, the shoreline of Sol Beach Elegushi, Lagos State, pulsed with life as Zero Gravity Lagos returned with another iconic edition of its Sunday experience.
With the brand’s founder DJ Consequence currently on tour in the UK, the night took on a special energy driven by the powerful synergy between two rising forces in the scene, the maverick Seyyicodes and the talented DJ Monte.
Personally invited from the UK, Seyyicodes made a strong return to his home country with a performance that reflected both his Afrobeats roots and his global evolution as a music producer, DJ and sonic storyteller. Known for blending of traditional West African grooves with modern sound design, he curated a dynamic set filled with original
productions, exclusive edits and live remixes that blurred the line between DJing and performance art. It was a beautiful scene to behold as he brought his mastery to bear on the turntable.
From soulful Amapiano-inspired builds to rhythmic Afrofusion breakdowns, the B2B set with DJ Monte moved fluidly across genres, styles and tempos. Their chemistry behind the decks was unmistakable, not just in the smooth transitions and bold selections but in the shared energy that carried through the entire crowd alongside the excited crowd. Together they turned the dance floor into a shared space for movement, emotion and connection.
As the night unfolded, DJ Monte brought his own signature flair. Already, he is known for his vibrant mixing style and intuitive command of the crowd. The collaboration between both DJs felt organic and electrifying, balancing individual artistry with collective energy to deliver a set that was both curated and spontaneous.
The evening also featured standout performances from Lagos-based DJs including DIMATHEDJBOI, DJ Kiki, DJ Rabbit and DJ Harddy, each bringing a distinct vibe to the lineup. Amplifying the experience were hypemen HardVantage, Fadakar and Wozy Vee, whose stage presence and crowd engagement pushed the energy to new heights.
Beyond the music, the night was a celebration of creative collaboration and cultural exchange. Seyyicodes’ presence in Lagos, having returned from the UK to perform at one of the city’s most respected platforms, marks a significant moment in his journey. His performance reflected the growing influence of diasporic African artists who continue to bridge global and local sounds with authenticity and artistic depth.
As DJ Consequence continues to expand the Zero Gravity brand internationally, this
edition proved that the movement remains strong and rooted at home. With artists like
Seyicodes and Monte shaping the current wave of Afrobeats and Afrofusion, the future of African music is not just bright, it is already here, evolving and thriving. No doubt, there will be more of this sonic engagement in months ahead.
