CHIEF KEFAS LAMENTS PLATEAU BLOODSHED, URGES COMMUNITY-DRIVEN SECURITY SOLUTIONS

Respected entrepreneur and former Plateau State gubernatorial aspirant, Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik, has strongly condemned the ongoing violence in Plateau State, particularly the recent massacre in Bassa Local Government Area that reportedly claimed over 50 lives.

Describing the killings as “a national disgrace,” Chief Kefas called for urgent and coordinated government action to stop the bloodshed and ensure justice is served.

“What is happening in Plateau State is a tragedy that must not continue. The blood of our people is being spilled needlessly, and this is unacceptable in any civilized society,” he said.

In a statement released to the media on Monday, the CEO of Kefiano Autos expressed his deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in rural areas and emphasized the need for community-led security initiatives.

He advocated for the empowerment of local vigilante groups, stating that with proper training, funding, and alignment with security agencies, they could provide effective protection in areas where government presence is weak.

“The reality is that security forces are overstretched. We must empower our communities to defend themselves within the law. Vigilantes, when properly managed, can bridge the gap,” Chief Kefas noted.

Pointing to the successes recorded in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina through organized vigilante operations, he urged Plateau State to learn from those examples and act swiftly to replicate such models.

On the Bassa massacre, he was unequivocal:

“The killing of over 50 innocent people is a horrific act of inhumanity. This must be thoroughly investigated, and the perpetrators must face justice. Anything less is an insult to the victims.”

Referencing Luke 22:36 in the Bible, Chief Kefas emphasized the importance of preparedness, clarifying that he does not support violence, but rather responsible self-defense.

“We are not calling for chaos. We are calling for preparedness. Our people deserve the right to defend their homes, their families, and their future.”

He also extended a call to traditional rulers, faith-based leaders, and civil society organizations to close ranks and promote peaceful coexistence across ethnic and religious lines.

“Peace must be pursued with purpose. Let us come together to heal our land and restore hope to our people.”

Chief Kefas concluded by urging government at all levels to prioritize the safety of citizens and ensure accountability for crimes committed.

His statement has drawn widespread support from community leaders and youth groups who praised his bold stance and consistent advocacy for peace and security in Plateau State.
