How SoftOrbits achieved a 4.7 rating on Trustpilot with its single-feature software

SoftOrbits is an image data processing software development company founded by Eugene Ustinenkov in 2006. Initially started as a project focused on creating smaller-scale solutions to help photographers deal with routine and tedious tasks, it is now one of the niche-leading companies, boasting over 1,000,000 yearly downloads and recognition from OISV, Softonic, and CNET.

Despite the growth the company has experienced over the years, it is currently rated 4.7 on Trustpilot — and yet SoftOrbits still mainly creates smaller-scale single-feature solutions. The team behind it believes that this approach enabled them to achieve and maintain their success.

“When we started, our competitors were already well-established, and they focused on building comprehensive universal tools. We knew that if we wanted to level the playing field, we had to offer something different. We discovered quite quickly that most amateur photographers aren’t looking for tools that can do anything as long as you spend a week learning how to use them. They wanted simple, automated solutions that fix particular problems — and that became our identity,” explains Eugene Ustinenkov, CEO of SoftOrbits and AlarmFront.

As Eugene adds, SoftOrbits offers something lots of other development companies don’t — immediate solutions to common image editing issues that require no expertise at all. By removing the learning curve from the equation and making automation their primary focus, the team has managed to find a unique niche in the market, mainly appealing to amateur photographers, marketing teams, and content creators.

“When time-saving properties of your software are the most important ones for the client, they won’t switch to the competitor who may offer more features in a single tool. Why download a giant program that can do pretty much anything — as long as you do it yourself — if you can simply put a photo in our utility and get stuff done in a few seconds?” says Eugene Ustinenkov, CEO of SoftOrbits, Candidate of Technical Sciences

SoftOrbits made it its goal to help users enjoy photography without having to deal with the tedious process of photo editing. This is one of the reasons why last year the team introduced AI into seven of its tools.

“The automation AI provides is currently unparalleled, and you cannot ignore it. While other companies focus on its creative qualities, we take our own road once again. We believe that AI is at its best (and certainly most consistent) when it deals with routine tasks like changing lighting or color correcting. Photographers generally aren’t happy with AI taking liberties and adding elements to their work, but they are grateful for its ability to quickly and automatically fix aspects they don’t like,” says Eugene Ustinenkov, CEO of SoftOrbits with more than 10 years of software development expertise.

SoftOrbits believes that the accessibility of its products is the main reason behind its success, which is why the company is currently in the process of switching its distribution model to SaaS.

“There is nothing that compares to providing global online access to our products with no hardware requirements — it’s as simple as that. That’s why we are currently working hard to make it happen in the near future, but the process isn’t easy, and it will realistically take some time. However, we have just the right team to accomplish anything, so be ready for our releases,” says Hannes Jansen, writer and editor at SoftOrbits.
