Discussions on strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process took center stage at a virtual dialogue hosted by the National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity), Sahara Deck. Experts at the event, including former chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Sam Amadi, emphasized the need for reforms to enhance transparency, build public confidence, and ensure credible elections.
Amadi highlighted concerns over the current structure of election administration, calling for measures that would enhance neutrality and fairness in the process. He also advocated for improvements in how election results are managed, stressing the importance of reducing manual interventions to minimize discrepancies and ensure a more transparent outcome.
“The way we handle election results needs to change,” Amadi said. “A more technology-driven approach will significantly reduce errors and increase trust in the process.”
Veteran journalist Jimi Disu echoed similar concerns, warning that without key reforms, future elections could face the same challenges.
“Every election cycle, we hear the same concerns,” Disu said. “If we don’t address the underlying issues, we will continue to see disputes and controversies.”
The dialogue reinforced the importance of ongoing conversations about electoral integrity, with participants emphasizing the need for continuous improvements that align with global best practices.
