Rising Afro-Soul Star, Jaggarz, Shares His Journey, Vision

The Nigerian music industry continues to witness a surge of fresh talent, and among them is Joseph Nnanna Ejiofor, popularly known by his stage name, Jaggarz. Hailing from Anambra State but currently based in Lagos, the Afro-soul artist has opened up about his journey, challenges, and aspirations. Jaggarz ventured into music in 2022 after discovering the healing power of music.

His journey was inspired by his producer and interactions with artist friends, which gave him a deeper appreciation for the creative process. “I discovered the peace I felt while in the studio,” he said, reflecting on how music became a sanctuary for him.

Growing up, Jaggarz was influenced by Nigerian music heavyweights like Olamide, Wizkid, and Psquare. These inspirations shaped his musical style, leading to the release of his debut single, Blessings, which has been making significant waves across the country, as noted by popular Instagram blogger Tunde Ednut. His most recent track, Sativa, also showcases his evolving artistry. Despite his success, he is far from slowing down, revealing plans for an upcoming EP and additional singles.

He describes his sound as Afro-soul, a reflective genre known for its soothing and emotional depth. Unlike many emerging artists chasing overnight success, Jaggarz prides himself on patience. “I can’t rush greatness. I just want my sound heard, regardless of whether it brings income or not,” he said.

The process of creating music, he revealed, is a painstaking one. He often spends months on a single track, restarting projects multiple times to ensure he achieves perfection. Balancing his demanding music career with personal life has been overwhelming, but his passion for music and fear of failure have kept him moving forward.

Criticism, though challenging, has become a tool for his growth. “At first, I couldn’t handle it so well, but I’m currently learning to use it to sharpen my skill,” he noted. Jaggarz also emphasizes staying true to himself as an artist, creating his own unique style and avoiding trends.

Looking ahead, he expressed a desire to collaborate with BNXN (formerly Buju) and hopes his music sends a message of self-confidence. “Be cool by being yourself,” he said, highlighting the importance of authenticity in his art.

While acknowledging the challenges of the music industry, Jaggarz remains undeterred. “I wish I knew how hard and capital-intensive this would be,” he admitted. However, his love for music and dedication to his craft continue to drive him forward.

With a distinct sound and unwavering focus, Jaggarz is poised to make a lasting impact in Nigeria’s vibrant music scene.
