The Ijaw Youth Consultative Forum (IYCF) chairman/CEO, High Chief Ebizimor Preye Raphael, has, on behalf of the forum, commended the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) boss, Chief Dennis Otuaro, for his bold initiative in meeting with the Senate President, Senator Godswill O. Akpabio, to discuss critical issues affecting the Niger Delta region.

During the meeting, Chief Otuaro and Senator Akpabio deliberated on matters of sustainable peace and overall development in the region. The IYCF has praised the PAP boss for his proactive approach in addressing the challenges facing the Niger Delta, noting that his efforts have contributed significantly to the relative peace and stability currently enjoyed in the region.

The IYCF, however, seized the opportunity to urge the Senate President to use his good office to address the issue of inadequate funding of the Presidential Amnesty Programme. The group emphasized that the PAP is integral to the peace and well-being of the Niger Delta region and that sufficient funding is necessary to ensure the programme’s continued success.

“We commend Chief Otuaro for his tireless efforts in promoting peace and development in the Niger Delta region,” said the IYCF in a statement. “We also urge the Senate President to take the issues of inadequate funding of the PAP seriously, as it is critical to the sustenance of peace and stability in the region.”

The IYCF’s call for increased funding for the PAP is coming at a time when the programme is facing significant challenges in its efforts to reintegrate ex-agitators and promote economic development in the Niger Delta. The group’s intervention is seen as a timely reminder of the need for sustained investment in the region’s peace and development initiatives.

As the Niger Delta region continues to navigate the complexities of peace-building and economic development, the IYCF’s endorsement of Chief Otuaro’s efforts and their call for increased funding for the PAP serve as a reminder of the critical role that collaborative leadership and sustained investment can play in promoting peace and prosperity in the region.
