Anambra Community In US, OCUSA Marks National Convention With A Call to Adopt AI in Preserving Igbo Culture
Indigenes of Oraifite, Anambra State living in the United States of America under the aegis of Oraifite Citizens in USA (OCUSA) have marked their biennial national convention with a clarion call for the adoption of Artifical Intelligence (AI) to preserve Igbo culture.
The convention with the theme “Our Youth, Our Future: Securing Our Future by Investing in Our Generation” which is the eleventh in the series took place on Friday, July 26th in Houston, Texas and was hosted by the Southwest Regional Chapter comprising Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma as well as the host state, Texas.
In his address of welcome, the OCUSA National President General, Engr. Harrison Ufondu expressed displeasure that Igbo language and culture is gradually going into extinction, challenging young people to adopt a tech approach to save the language and culture.
“Foster ways and means of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to preserve the Igbo language and culture that are going extinct according to recent studies”, he stated.
“What makes this convention special is that it’s all about the preservation of our culture and the future of OCUSA. We are embracing a new era of continuity, involvement, and inclusivity of our youth and young adults; to bring them in, recruit them, keep them connected, and most importantly to boost the membership of the Next Generation of OCUSA”, he added.
While applauding the accomplishments the town union has made, especially with regards to embarking on legacy projects in Oraifite, he commended members of OCUSA for devoting their time and resources to make a difference.
Also in his remarks, the OCUSA South West regional president, Vince C. Amanchukwu also commended the executive and members of the region for their commitment and support that saw to the successful hosting of the convention.
He said, “There is no doubt in my mind that the purpose of this convention is to find ways and means of moving Oraifite forward, and for OCUSA to be viable.
“Based on the intention of the founding fathers for OCUSA continuity, the interest of our Youths who will take over from us must be our focus”.
The convention featured conferment of awards of recognition on sons and daughters of the community who have made significant contributions towards the development of Oraifite.
They include, renowned global cultural activist and sports enthusiast, Queen Amb. Dr. Krystal Chanchangi, Sir Emeka Offor and many others
