As a bibliophile, Florence Ita-Giwa, a respected politician, has read a volume of memoirs of great individuals in history, who lived exemplary lifestyles. So also, in her peregrinations, Ita-Giwa, a former Special Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has encountered many whose lives have impacted humanity greatly, albeit quietly.

Since she left the corridors of power, she has proven to the world that no joy is equal to the joy of serving others. Her service to her immediate environment is almost unequalled, as she expends millions of Naira every year for the education of the less-privileged children she brought out of Bakassi. Besides, she is also at the forefront of the struggles to ensure her people enjoy good representation, politically.

For instance, the support Mama Bakassi, as she is famously called, gave Prince Bassey Otu, who wants to govern Cross River State, has been hailed by many in the state, a development that eventually led to his victory at the primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

To say that Ita-Giwa was elated is, to put it mildly; she was fulfilled. It is another proof that she is still a factor to be reckoned with in the political climate.

Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul. This saying by Henry Ward Beecher, an American Clergyman must have guided the beautiful woman as she expressed gratitude to the governor, Senator Ben Ayade, and the entire leadership APC in the state for the overwhelming support that led to the emergence of Senator Prince Bassey Otu, popularly known as ‘Sweet Prince’ as the winner of the primary election.

In a statement by the leadership of the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State signed by its convener, Ita Giwa commended Governor Ayade for allowing and superintending over a democratically electoral process that produced the winner, who is an experienced lawmaker, accomplished banker and a grassroots mobiliser. She also thanked other socio-political pressure groups that supported him in so many ways.

The groups called on other senatorial districts, sons and daughters of Cross River to unite and mobilise massively so that APC could win the governorship election in the state. The forum convened two months ago by the former presidential aide reportedly lobbied other senatorial districts in the state, maintaining that it is the turn of the Southern District to produce the next governor, a process which led to the emergence of Otu.
