Group Tasks Govt on Budgetary Allocation for Agric
By Mary Nnah
Following the numerous outrages by the Nigerian youths to draw government attention to their various plights, one of which is the EndSARS protests which its one year anniversary was marked last Wednesday, the National Council of the Boys’ Brigade of Nigeria has called on government to create budgetary allocation for the subsidy in agriculture that would be extended to the youths.
Speaking during a press briefing to announce the N100 million Brigade House Fundraising ceremony billed to hold tomorrow, October 24 in Ipaja, Lagos, National President, Sir Sunny Nwosu, said that by doing so, it would help the GDP of Nigeria to grow.
He advised further that the government should not stop there but should go a step further by being prepared to buy up whatever these youths produce, adding “Some of them may not want to be involved in exporting the raw materials outside the country because of the policies surrounding all those things.”
He stressed further that the government should build up the country’s food security as this was the most important thing needed to help Nigeria’s food security.
“That is the only way you can have the majority of these youths into agriculture. Let them set up, register their businesses, open an account and then give the loans that would be subsidised. There is nothing wrong if they give the loans that are subsidised, because the interests alone from commercial banks can kill the business. So if they do that they would be helping to engage the youth in fruitful endeavours so that they do not have to join bad gangs. Definitely all over the world, there is nowhere that you do not have bad groups but the most important thing is to do things to reduce these bad groups,” Nwosu added.
