2021Expert Researcher Makes Groundbreaking Discovery in Cancer Research – Babatomiwa Kikiowo

In a trendsetting discovery in cancer research, expert pathobiologist Babatomiwa Kikiowo has discovered the potential of plant phytochemicals to effectively target breast cancer therapeutic proteins and mitigate proliferation of the disease, offering new insights into the fight against cancer.

Phytochemicals, which are naturally occurring compounds found in fruits, vegetables, and other plant-based foods, have long been recognized for their health benefits to potentially, effectively combat diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. With over two million new cases diagnosed globally each year, the implications of this study published in the Recent Patents on Anti-Cancer Drug Discovery are profound.

In a recent chat with the scientist, Babatomiwa emphasized the significance of this breakthrough stating “The study of plant phytochemicals offers a unique perspective in understanding cancer biology. This work is a significant milestone in cancer research because by targeting specific proteins using these naturally occurring compounds, we are well on our way to developing effective alternative therapies for the disease, with fewer side effects.”

Kikiowo’s groundbreaking research explored the efficacy of phytochemicals in Cannabis sativa in targeting estrogen receptor alpha (ER-α), a principal protein involved in the progression of breast cancer. His study employed advanced methods such as induced fit docking and automated QSAR studies, revealing that certain phytochemicals exhibit superior binding affinity compared to tamoxifen, the current standard in breast cancer therapy. These findings suggest that compounds like naringenin, dihydroresveratrol, baicalein, apigenin, and cannabitriol are potentially safer, more effective alternatives to conventional treatments.
“Breast cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths globally. With this research, we are on the brink of discovering new pathways for treatment that could revolutionize how we approach breast cancer therapy. ” Kikiowo remarked.

As the scientific community continues to grapple with the complexities of cancer and we eagerly anticipate effective treatment options, Kikiowo’s research is leading the charge on the importance of harnessing nature’s resources to combat public health’s greatest challenges. With ongoing studies and potential clinical applications on the horizon, Kikiowo’s research presents renewed optimism that plant-based therapies could change the landscape of cancer treatment for the better.
