Jojo Amiegbe: Navigating the Urban Drive Through Lagos Traffic

In the dynamic city of Lagos, where the rhythm never stops, one voice effortlessly rises above the cacophony, guiding listeners through the bustling urban landscape. Josephine Odion Amiegbe, affectionately known as Jojo, is that invigorating voice on the airwaves, seamlessly leading fans through the daily rush hour during “Traffic The Urban Drive.” Born and bred in the heart of Lagos State, Jojo’s journey from an avid radio listener to an influential On Air Personality (OAP) has been nothing short of inspiring.

Hailing from the Esan South East local government area of Edo State, Jojo’s early days were marked by her fascination with the world of media. The melodies of BBC Network Africa in the morning and the stories shared via Voice of America in the evening, both transmitted through her father’s radio, were the first threads woven into the tapestry of her love for radio.

The trajectory to her present career was far from linear. While pursuing a degree in Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Benin, Jojo’s persistent attempts to secure radio opportunities were met with multiple rejections. However, her unyielding determination led her to her first radio stint in 2012 on Raypower FM Benin. This paved the way for further engagements, including hosting various radio shows like “Sunny Side Up,” “Power Express,” “Power Play,” and “Friday Night Grand Slam.”

In 2015, Jojo’s passion found its true home when she joined MegaLectrics Limited, the parent company of revered radio stations like THE BEAT FM, NAIJA FM, CLASSIC FM & LAGOS TALKS FM. Her journey led her to become a beloved radio personality on The Beat 97.9 FM Ibadan, where she currently hosts the “Morning Rush” from 6 am to 11 am.

Beyond the radio waves, Jojo’s vibrant persona extended to the online realm as she co-starred and co-produced the online reality series ‘The Dare Series’ in 2016. This show captured her daring and playful spirit, resulting in memorable stunts and engaging content. A keen advocate for community involvement, Jojo’s engagements range from collaborating with the organizers of TedxMokola to participating in the Beat/Naija NYSC Camp concert at the Iseyin Orientation Camp.

Jojo’s multi-faceted talents extend to the realm of writing. As a contributor to the Dining Out section of Ibadan City Info magazine and various blogs, she eloquently shares her insights. Her prowess as a Health & Fitness writer shines through in her articles on Opera News hub. Jojo’s affinity for music finds expression in her curated playlists, such as “BLACKLIST,” “CARDIO CRUSH,” and “FRESHERS,” which showcase her personal musical preferences on Apple Music.

Currently, Jojo hosts the widely popular “Traffic The Urban Drive” and “TOUCHDOWN 10” on Urban 96 FM Lagos, a station owned by Group 8, the brains behind Soundcity TV & Radio, ONTV, as well as Correct FM. With her captivating presence, unbridled energy, and magnetic charm, Jojo Amiegbe stands as an embodiment of the spirit of Lagos, guiding listeners through the city’s rhythm with a flair uniquely her own.
