Taiwo Adegoke: Strengthening Brooklyn’s Small Business Community Through Strategic Advisory
By Ugo Aliogo
When Taiwo Adegoke, MBA, CFA, transitioned from his role as a Business Development Intern at Pace University’s SBDC (2016–2018) into a Business Advisor at the Brooklyn Small Business Development Center (2018–2019), it was more than a promotion — it was a testament to the trust he had built with entrepreneurs, colleagues, and community leaders. His reputation for turning ambitious ideas into actionable business strategies made him a natural choice to step into a role with even greater responsibility.
At Brooklyn SBDC, Taiwo quickly became a sought-after advisor for small business owners eager to expand their reach. He provided one-on-one support in building pro-forma financials, shaping growth strategies, and preparing loan applications. His ability to bridge technical finance with practical business needs meant that entrepreneurs walked away not only with numbers on paper but with strategies they could believe in.
One standout example was his work with a Brooklyn-based coffee startup. Taiwo guided the founders through every stage of their business plan, refining projections and structuring loan documentation. His persistence paid off: the business secured $15,000 in seed funding, celebrated at the company’s grand opening. For the owners, this was more than a loan — it was the launchpad for their dream.
“Taiwo didn’t just prepare us for the bank,” recalls the entrepreneur. “He prepared us for running a real business. That funding gave us a start, but his guidance gave us direction.”
His impact extended beyond individual clients. By helping owners implement QuickBooks for transparent recordkeeping, refine marketing strategies, and optimize operations, Taiwo empowered businesses to grow sustainably and compete effectively. For many, the improvements in financial literacy and operational discipline were as transformative as the capital they secured.
Colleagues at Brooklyn SBDC observed his distinctive style: “Taiwo met clients where they were, but he also elevated them. He had a way of showing entrepreneurs the bigger picture while giving them the step-by-step tools to get there.”
By the close of his tenure, Taiwo had established himself not just as an advisor but as a catalyst for community growth. His journey from Pace SBDC intern to Brooklyn SBDC advisor underscored his steady rise — each step marked by trust, measurable results, and a growing legacy of empowered entrepreneurs.
