In honour of its veterans, Ikoyi Club 1938, Golf Section, recently unveiled plans for its inaugural Veterans’ Invitational kitty.

Scheduled to take place at the Ikoyi Club Golf Section on April 4, the event is expected to showcase skills and sportsmanship, attracting golf enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds.

Explaining the need to celebrate the golf veterans and promote inclusivity, Mr Tade Adekunle, Captain, Ikoyi Club Golf Section said “At Ikoyi Club Golf Section, we believe that golf should be accessible to all, regardless of age. Our Veterans’ Invitational is a testament to our dedication to inclusivity, welcoming seasoned golfers and members to come together in the spirit of friendly competition while leading a healthier lifestyle.”

As part of its mission to promote inclusivity and charity, a point highlighted by the Lady Captain, Fatumata Coker, the club has in its calendar year, key activities that will cater to different age groups such as the newly introduced year-round junior golf program for children between ages six and 16, which includes the Children Kitty Day among other tournaments. There is also a tournament and a scholarship program planned for caddies to help them further their dreams.

“In addition to encouraging our veterans to continue to lead a healthy lifestyle through the Veterans Invitational, we also recognize our responsibility to give back to society and nurture the next generation of golfing talent,” added Mrs. Abah Oputa, Chairperson of the Committee.

The Veterans’ Invitational is not limited to golf playing but will also feature a soirée where club members can mingle and interact with one another in an ambience of good music and refreshment.
