Gunmen Invade Abuja Estate, Abduct 10 Residents

Olawale Ajimotokan in Abuja

Ten persons were on Sunday night reported kidnapped by marauders, who invaded Sagwari Layout Estate in Dutse axis of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Eye witnesses claimed the kidnappers appeared like herdsmen to mask their identity when they attacked the estate after 7p.m.

One of the victims, who sent a distress message to the estate’s WhatsApp group, had initially raised an alarm that his family was in danger before he stopped responding to subsequent messages.

Information gleaned said two members of staff were abducted from a hotel, while eight residents were kidnapped.

A security guard, who was overpowered and beaten by the invaders, has been rescued.

Residents have mobilised security operatives in collaboration with the estate security guards to comb the hills within the vicinity of the estate.

FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, could not be reached for comments while repeated calls to her phone were unanswered.

But a follow up call to the police emergency call centre, revealed that the command was aware of the incident, and the closest DPO had been informed to mobilise men to the scene.
