As the governorship election gets under way in Lokoja, Kogi state, low voter turnout marred the election in most of the polling units visited.

At NASFAT Nursery and Primary School, Lokogoma, especially at  polling unit 38 and 39, INEC officials were on ground before 7:30 a.m.

Also, at Open space by Ava hotel  polling unit, election commenced at about 9:00 a.m.

The Presiding officer had to delay the commencement of voting because they were waiting for other party agents.

At FMC junction polling unit 058, a voter, Mrs Grace Iyere said the election was peaceful and voting was going well.

According to her, “The BVAS is working. Some are saying they need changes, it is only when you come out and vote that you can see the changes.

The election is peaceful. I trekked from my house to this place and the road was free.”

At Ajagbe/Moremi  polling unit 008 Ajagbe in Lokoja, a Christian Association of Nigeria Observer, Mr. Ojo Stephen commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He said electoral officers  arrived at 8:03 a.m, while voting materials were displayed at 8:40 to the electorate.

Stephen noted that accreditation and voting commenced at 8:43 a.m without challenges.

He noted that they had not witnessed anything like vote buying.

According to him, the BVAS machine is working well up till this moment.

While there is voter apathy, the election has been peaceful so far.
