MTN Nigeria has revealed that it will adopt the Application Programming Interface (API) Technology aimed at boosting its customer services delivery.

MTN’s Chief Information Officer, Information Technology, Shoyinka Shodunke, disclosed the plan at the 2023 Africa Internet Governance Forum (AIGF) held in Abuja.

Shodunke said the MTN was transforming “to ensure every service rendered would come through API technology. To drive API technology is to ensure having data lake.”

He said the theme of the programme aligned with MTN’s strategy, noting that a lot of synergy is going on within the industry.

“At the moment, we are about the biggest in terms of the sort of warehouse data we do hold. We have about seven petabytes of data in which we process on a daily basis.

“We process about 200 million data types on a daily basis. We are transforming ourselves, from that telco into a new telco by ensuring that every service that we do render will come in through API technology.

“Our corporate strategy, which we tagged Ambition 2025, actually focuses on transforming the landscape of Africa. Operating environment actually captures the essence of this team at MTN. We believe that everybody deserves the benefit of a connected lifestyle.”

On the issue of 5G, Shodunke said MTN would explore all platforms to enable ecosystem collaborations across so that by 2025 it becomes a technologycom to drive its services.

He said by 2025, MTN would move from the traditional space it was and start providing connectivity far and beyond.

“Our ambition 2025 is a strategy that is guiding us to ensure that by 2025 we move from our traditional space which is providing connectivity and start providing services far beyond connectivity.

“Today we have about six per cent of our subscriber base using the 5g technology. We see 5G as a key enabler in terms of the strategy we have drawn up for ourselves.

“We see ourselves as a technologycom, which is a key driver into that because as part of that ambition, we will be pushing out platforms that will ensure that we enable ecosystem collaborations across,” Shodunke noted.
