Police Confirm Terrorists Attack  as Four Killed, 18 Abducted in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed a terror attack in Giyawa village, Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State where four persons were confirmed dead with several others injured.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Ahmed Rufai, told THISDAY that 18 persons were initially abducted by the assailants, who also carted away other valuables, including livestock.

He said seven of the abducted victims later escape and returned to their community where many residents have fled for safety since last Wednesday night when the assailants attacked the community

Though other sources from the affected community claimed that over 30 persons were abducted, the police maintained that only 11 persons are still with the attackers.

He said the police are on the trail of the assailants, and are making efforts to ensure normalcy is restored in the affected community and environment

Also, the state chapter of People Democratic party (PDP) yesterday condemned the attack, saying the incessant attacks on Goronyo communities have become worrisome.

In a statement issued by the party spokesman, Alhaji Hassan Sahabi Sanyiinnawal, on behalf of the state party Chairman, Aliyu Bello Goronyo,  PDPcalled on the governments to find lasting solutions to the problem.

Goronyo, who is also from the local government area, commiserated with the families of the deceased, and prayed for quick recovery of those that were injured.

Last week, the member representing Goronyo/Gada federal constituency, Bashir Gorai, said his people pay levies in tranches to access their farms.

He noted that during planting, weeding, and harvesting season, they pay imposed levies to be able to access their farms.

The Eastern senatorial district of the state is the epiccentre of banditry in the state.

At the time of filing this report, the state government is yet to issue any statement on the matter.
