Sanwo-Olu, Abiodun Forward Names of Commissioner Nominees to Lawmakers

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, have forwarded names of commissioner-nominees to their respective houses of assembly for approval.

Details of the list of proposed cabinet members transmitted to the Lagos State House of Assembly by Governor Sanwo-Olu for ratification, contained names of 39 commissioner-nominees, according to a tweet by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile.

Akosile added that 30 per cent of the commissioner-nominees are women, while others are youths, technocrats, and politicians.

Some members of the governor Sanwo-Olu’s cabinet during his first term in office made the list, while a number of others did not.

Among former cabinet members who made the list are former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso; his Budget and Economic Planning counterpart, Mr. Sam Egube; ex-Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi; ex-Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Aramide Adeyooye; and his Education counterpart, Tokunbo Wahab.

Among former cabinet members dropped by Governor Sanwo-Olu are former Commissioner of Finance, Rabiu Olowo; former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the state, Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN; and ex- Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Yetunde Arobieke.

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, confirmed receiving Abiodun’s nominees yesterday.

According to a statement by the Clerk/Head of Legislative Service of the Ogun State’s House of Assembly, Deji Adeyemo, the Speaker received the governor’s letter dated 27th of July, 2023 requesting the confirmation of the nominees by the lawmakers.

The governor’s correspondence reads: “I write once again to congratulate Mr. Speaker for your re-election into office as Rt. Honourable Speaker of the 10th Assembly and subsequent inauguration of all members of the Honourable House. I appreciate the Honourable House for the support and cooperation enjoyed during the first term of our administration.

“In furtherance of our mission in building our dear State together, Mr. Speaker, please find attached, the list of nominees for the post of commissioners for your consideration.”

The statement clarified that as of the rule, the speaker would announce the names on the list to the lawmakers at the next plenary day slated for Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
