Two Nigerian Students Win Gold at Mathematics Olympian

Two Nigerian Students –  Esemitodje Oghenerukevwe Patrick and Uwakfon Nyon Jacob – have won Gold at this year’s Pan African Mathematics Olympiad, (PAMO) and International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO).

The two students had represented the country at this year’s competition, where they emerged overall best.

The competition had 54 African country participating, only eight countries won Gold which included Nigeria.

Other countries that won Gold at the competition were: Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.

In his reaction to the victory communicated to the media via a congratulatory message, the Managing Director, Nigerian Tulip International College NTIC, Mr. Feyzullah Bilgin, extended congratulations to the National Mathematical Centre (NMC), Nigeria, and the exceptional students who achieved gold medals at this year’s PAMO (Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad) in Rwanda, 2023.

He said: “This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to your dedication, talent, and unwavering pursuit of excellence in the field of mathematics.

“Your outstanding performance in the PAMO competition not only reflects your exceptional mathematical skills but also demonstrates the strength and potential of the Nigerian mathematical community.

“It is a source of immense pride for your country and serves as an inspiration to aspiring mathematicians across the nation.”

While commending the NMC for its continuous commitment to nurturing and fostering mathematical talent in Nigeria, the MD said “Your dedication to providing a conducive environment for students to develop their mathematical abilities has undoubtedly played a pivotal role in their success.

“To the talented students who emerged victorious, your hard work, perseverance, and determination have paid off in the form of gold medals. This accomplishment not only recognises your individual brilliance but also highlights the bright future you hold as ambassadors of Nigerian mathematics.

“Your achievement will serve as a beacon of hope for others, encouraging them to embrace the beauty and challenges of mathematics.

“We applaud your teachers, mentors, and parents for their invaluable support and guidance throughout your journey. Their unwavering belief in your abilities and their commitment to your education have undoubtedly contributed to this extraordinary accomplishment. We express our sincere gratitude to them for their dedication and encouragement.

“Your accomplishments serve as a shining example of what can be achieved through hard work, determination, and a love for mathematics. We wish you continued success in all your future endeavors”.
