MARAN Celebrates 34th Anniversary and Award after Nine Years
The Maritime Reporters Association of NIgeria (MARAN) is set to celebrate its 34th anniversary of reporting the Nigerian Maritme Industry on December 9, 2022.
This event is coming nine years after it celebrated it’s 25th anniversary in 2013.
The Anniversary and Awards earlier sheduled to hold on the November 28th 2022 at Sheraton Hotel is now slated to hold on December 9th, 2022, with the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Mu azu Jaji Sambo confirming attendance as the special guest of honour.
In a statement issued by the Chairman Planning Committee for MARAN’s 34th Anniversary and Awards, Mr. Dapo Olawuni, he disclosed that the event earlier scheduled to hold on November 28, 2022 will now hold on December 9, 2022.
He stated that the Minister for Transportation and other maritime industry bigwigs have confirmed their attendance to the event which is themed; “16 years of Port concession : “THE PAINS AND THE GAINS”.
Part of the statement read: “The event is now billed to hold at the prestigious Providence Hotel, GRA, Ikeja Lagos under the Chairmanship of Dr Ade Dosunmu, former Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA)”
“The Association plans to draw the attention of the federal Government on the need to further review the port concession era and to examine the opportunities posed by the building of new ports, especially the much celebrated Lekki Deep seaport.”
In his remark, the Minister of Transportation was quoted as saying that he would “not want to miss the event” for anything “because Maritime sector is” his “first love and MARAN is my immediate constituency”.
The event will feature Award presentation to the Honourable Minister for Transportation Engr Muazu jaji Sambo, Presidential flagbearer of New NIgeria peoples party (NNPP) , Alhaji Rabiu Musa kwankwaso, comptroller- General of NIgeria customs service, Col Hameed Ali, Chairman of National Drug law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA), Brig Gen Buba Marwa (Rtd) and stakeholders in Nigeria’s maritime industry amongst others.
MARAN was established in 1988 and is an affiliate of the NIgerian union of journalists.
