Some operatives of local vigilantes in Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) stormed bandits dens killing no fewer than 13 of the terrorists, THISDAY has learnt.

The action of the vigilante was the second within three months after local hunters neutralized more than 30 bandits in the same local government.

The Concerned Shiroro Youths, an umbrella body monitoring security situation in Shiroro LGA confirmed the incident in a statement yesterday.

The statement was signed the co-conveners of the youth group, Sani Abubakar, Yusuf Kokki and Bello Ibrahim

The statement said the bandits were killed in their Camps “somewhere around Chukuba axis, Kwaki/Chukuba Ward and at Sarari area in the same Kwaki/Chukuba Ward of the same local government area”.

It said: “Acting on a tip-off and after reliably being informed about the presence of these heartless, venomous, murderous and hydra headed terrorists in their various enclaves; the brave, courageous, determined and fearless Local vigilantes swung into action and behold, they (terrorists) were greatly subdued after head-on confrontations at different times” the statement said.

“While three terrorists were eliminated in their Camps somewhere around Chukuba axis, Kwaki/Chukuba ward of Shiroro local government, about ten others met their waterloo at Sarari area in the same Kwaki/Chukuba ward of Shiroro LGA. “Some of the bandits however escaped with bullet wounds.”

The statement said assorted and dangerous sophisticated weapons were recovered from the criminals during the deadly encounter while many kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt.

The youth group commended the courage and gallantry of the local vigilante and urge governments at all levels to adequately equip them so that they can perform more exploits.

Efforts to confirm the development was abortive as the Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State Police Command, Mr. Wasiu Abiodun did not respond to calls made to his cell phone.
