House Labour Party Member Defects to APC

A member of the Labour Party (LP) in the House of Representatives, Hon. Godday Samuel Odagboyi, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Recently, the minority of the House has lost its members to the ruling party. The APC within the past four months has gained 11 lawmakers to its fold.

Odagboyi, who represents Apa/Agatu federal constituency in Benue State, had in May 2021 met with the Yobe State Governor and Chairman of the APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni, ahead of his defection to the party.

In his official announcement contained in a letter read by the House Speaker, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, at the plenary yesterday, he hinged the decision to defect to APC on the lingering crisis in the LP.

The letter read in part: “I have fully

registered and commenced party activities. My exit has become necessary because of the lingering crisis on my former party. And the Speaker’s untiring leadership qualities displayed since the commencement of this Assembly. I thank the acting National Chairman of APC, Buni, and Minister of Special Duties, George Akume, for their support in making this possible.”
