The Kogi State House of Assembly has screened and finally approved the appointment of Justice Richard Oloruniyi Olorunfemi as the substantive Chief Judge of the state pursuant to the recommendation of National Judicial Council (NJC).

The Assembly also screened and approved the appointment of Justice Siyaka Momohjimoh Usman as the president of the state Customary Court of Appeal.

The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mattew Kolawole, at a plenary last Wednesday read a letter from the state Governor, Yahaya Bello, requesting the Assembly to screen the three nominees.

The nominees are Justice Olorunfemi as the state Chief Judge; Justice Siyaka Usman as the president of the Customary Court of Appeal, and Mr. George Funso Ojo as commissioner (permanent member)Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC).

The Assembly, however, dissolved to committee of whole for screening exercise immediately with the Chief Judge of the state taking the lead followed by the president of the Customary Court of Appeal and permanent member of KOSOEC.

The Speaker, while passing a resolution, commended Justice Olorunfemi, who he described as being diligent in course of his duty since he became acting Chief Judge in past three months, saying he will do well as a substantive CJ.

The nominees, who presented curriculum vitae orally on the floor of the Assembly, were subsequently asked to take bow and go.

The Assembly will therefore forward the report of the committee of whole to the state governor for final ratification.
