UK based Nigerian DJ, manager, artiste and music promoter, Richard Anokwuru Emeka Amadi, aka DJ Meks Richard, is basking in the joy of his nomination for the 2021 Nigeria Achievers Awards. DJ Meks, an Abia State indigene, born and bred in Lagos, is nominated in the Outstanding DJ of the Year (Diaspora) category.
Moreso, he is the only London-based Nigerian DJ on the nominee list for an award won by several DJs in the diaspora over the years.
“I am lost for words when I heard about the nomination,” he said when contacted, “Coming at a time like this, it is a confirmation that my efforts are appreciated and that I should not relent.”
The Outstanding DJ of the Year (diaspora) category was created by the organisers of Nigeria Achievers Awards purposely to honour DJs in the diaspora for their contribution to Nigeria’s entertainment. He will be contending with other renowned DJs from across Europe and the United States of America. The 2021 edition of the prestigious award ceremony, the seventh edition since it started, is scheduled for Sunday, November 7, 2021, at the Excellence Hotel and Conference Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.
In the meantime, the wave-making entertainer is busy with his newly unveiled record label, Meks Record Label, and his forthcoming charity organisation, Meks Touching Lives Foundation. “I have a lot to give back to Nigeria this year,” he stated.
Speaking further about his initiatives he disclosed: “Meks Record Label is created to give more opportunities to talented youths at home and abroad, while the foundation will focus on supporting the education of underprivileged orphans across Nigeria.”
For the multi-talented DJ, his nomination for the Achievers Award, he avowed, shows that even though he tried to remain low-key, society noticed what everyone is doing. “I feel very honoured to be on the nominee list,” he said.
