Proprietor of Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management (RECTEM) and General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said students at the institution are trained not just to be skilled workers and employers of labour, but also to be God-fearing and law-abiding, presenting themselves as responsible employers, employees, family members and citizens of Nigeria.

Speaking during the convocation of the first set of graduates from the college at the school premises in Mowe, Ogun State recently, Adeboye who was represented by Prof. Fola Aboaba, said RECTEM remains committed to raising exemplary citizens, as it has instilled values in the graduating students.

Adeboye said further that workplaces and the nation in general, require skilled individuals who fear God as they are assets that will not only help develop the country’s economy but also move the nation forward as a whole.

“While some may see any mention of Christianity as a disadvantage, it is an advantage for every company to have a Christian in their midst. He or she is not only responsible to the company but also to someone higher who sees all, knows all and equally requires total commitment” the cleric noted.

Speaking further he said, “A lot of people draw an imaginary line between physical and spiritual things, but we don’t believe that in RCCG as the Lord is the source of wisdom both in the secular and spiritual world.”

This belief, he said, “forms the bedrock of this institution for our students to be skilled workers and employers of labour impacting the technological development of this country.

As the graduating students were sent forth to face the world, the RCCG G.O advised that “Though you are in the world, you are not of the world. Carry and conduct yourself with the dignity that comes with the children of God. So, press on and work harder, do not rest on your oars, this is not the end, it is simply the beginning”, Pastor Adeboye advised.

RECTEM’s Rector, Dr. Stella Mofunanya, said the rate at which the school has grown is remarkable, explaining that the level of performance of the students continues to justify the decision of the college from inception.

Mofunanya recalled that following the challenges of last year’s COVID-19 pandemic, the college did not only embark on online lectures in response to the pandemic but also designed and fabricated integrated sanitizer dispensing machines to fight the virus.

She was quick to add that the College Entrepreneurship Centre has been engaging all the students in various vocational training.

The Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Mr Obafemi Omokungbe, who gave the convocation lecture titled, “Raising champions for the next phase of technical innovation in Nigeria”, said “people should change our orientation of seeing those who attend technical colleges as dropouts”, adding, “they are not. It is a chosen profession because there are carpenters and electricians who can earn more than a PhD holder”.

Omokungbe therefore stressed the need for the government to fund technical education as well as revive the old technical colleges that have been abandoned for so long.
