Sunday Igboho Reportedly Arrested in Cotonou

Unconfirmed reports said Yoruba Activist, Sunday Adeyemo (aka Sunday Igboho) had been arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

He was said to have been arrested on Monday night while attempting to flee Nigeria en route Germany.

A source said combined security operatives arrested him in Contonou and that plans were on to bring him back to Nigeria.
“Sunday Igboho has been arrested in Cotonou. He was arrested about an hour ago.

He was supposed to travel to Germany through Cotonou this night.

“He wanted to leave Africa through Cotonou. He was arrested by security operatives in Cotonou.They are planning to bring him back to Nigeria”, the source said.

The Department of State Security (DSS) had raided Igboho’s Ibadan residence in the Soka area on July 1, 2021. The security operatives had killed two of his aides in a gun duel during the raid and arrested 12 of his aides, who were paraded at their headquarters in Abuja.

The DSS subsequently declared him wanted and advised him to surrender to security agencies.

Igboho, had in response to the demand, sued DSS seeking N500 million damages for the raid and destruction of his residence and killing of his aides.

DSS has yet to respond to queries on his reported arrest.
