NAF Kills Scores of Insurgents in Borno

* Army chief visits wounded soldiers

Air strikes conducted by jet fighters and helicopter gunships of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) killed scores of insurgents in Lamboa in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.

The air interdiction came as the Chief of Army Staff, Maj.Gen. Faruk Yahaya, visited wounded soldiers in Maiduguri and assured them of support of the army headquarters in meeting their health and welfare needs.

Spokesman of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, confirmed that the air strikes were delivered by Alpha jets and helicopter gunships, killing scores of insurgents.

A notorious ISWAP Logistic Commander, Modu Sullum, was also feared killed in the combat mission.

Sulum was believed to be the mastermind of destructions of power transmission towers at Malanari along Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway and attacks on travellers in Auno and Jakana axis of the state.

The terrorists, reportedly came in a convoy of eight gun trucks, preparatory to launch attacks in Lamboa.

Following the development, the air force deployed fighter aircraft in collaboration with ground troops, decimating many of the terrorists.

“I can confirm to you that we conducted successful air strikes in Borno Sunday afternoon”, he said.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Faruk Yahaya visited the Theatre Headquarters of the Joint Task Force of Operation Hadin Kai in his maiden operational visit from June 16-19, 2021 to assess the operational and welfare state of the troops.

A statement issued by Deputy Director, Public Relations, 7 Division Nigerian Army, Col. Ado Isa, said he visited the hospitals where he assured troops of adequate medicare and support in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

The army chief gave the assurances weekend when he visited the 7 Division Hospital and University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) to commiserate with the sick and wounded in action troops recuperating at the medical facilities.

He also prayed for their speedy recovery.

“While at the hospital, the he took time to interact with the soldiers and assured them of proper medical care and welfare, adding that their medical care is of utmost importance to him .

“He averred that the nation is indeed proud of their selfless service and sacrifices towards restoring peace to the North-east region”, it said.

Similarly, the COAS visited the Mechanical Repair Group to inspect the ongoing repairs and refurbishment of vehicles at the workshop through the use of local resources.

He commended the resilience and ingenuity of the engineers and technicians in fixing most of the vehicles that were hitherto classified as ‘beyond local repairs’.

Earlier, the new Theatre Commander Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Christopher Musa, briefed the army chief on the operational situation in the theatre.

He promised that all efforts would be geared towards bringing the war against terrorism to a decisive end.

The military chief appreciated the commitment and selflessness of the troops in the theatre and implored them to exhibit a high level of professionalism and ensure that all remnants of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists were neutralised
