ISL Dominates at Maltina School Games

International School, Lagos (ISL) team were the cynosure of all eyes at the Lagos State finals of the 2021 Maltina School Games held at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex after winning most of the awards at the tournament.

Over 410 schools in the six education districts of Lagos took part with ISL carting home most of the individual awards. Apart from the individual awards, ISL was also adjudged the best 2021 athletics school in Lagos.

ISL won seven gold, five silver, and two bronze medals to add to the medal haul of Education District four with the duo of Oluwademilade Ajayi and Olufemisola Mohammed contributing the majority of the ISL’s medals to be adjudged the best U-17 (boy) and U-15 (girl) athletes of the competition. Mohammed Tiamiyu of Ijaiye Housing Estate Junior School and Alimot Alowonle of Tindip College, Ikorodu emerged as the best athletes in U-15 (boy) and U-17 (girl).

Education District two emerged as the overall champion with 12 gold, 10 silver, and two bronze medals. District four finished second with 10 gold, five silver, and four bronze medals, while District one came third with seven gold, seven silver, and eight bronze medals.

Ajayi claimed gold in the long jump, 4X100m as well as silver medals in 400m, 200m and 100m to be named the best (boy) in the senior category while 14-year-old Mohammed emerged as champion in 200m, 400m, and long jump to be rated the best junior athlete (girl).

For their feat, Ajayi and Mohammed got N500, 000 each as well as other consolation prizes and trophies.
An excited coach of ISL, Ernest Ijeoma attributed the feat to the commitment of the athletes cum support from the school management and parents.
