The Governor of Kebbi State Sen Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has reiterated the State and Federal Government’s commitment to bringing banditry to an end in Zuru Emirate .
Bagudu gave the assurance Thursday at the celebration of Eid-el-fitr at Dankolo, Sakaba Local Government in Zuru Emirate the town sacked by bandits recently, where some police officers, including Divisional Police Officer, were killed.
A statement by his chief press secretary Abubakar Muazu Dakingari said Bagudu expressed dismay over the calamity.
He assured the people that adequate measure had been put in place by the Federal and State governments to address the situation bedevilling the area.
The governor then showed his delight for the return of the displaced persons to their villages where he assured them that he would do everything humanly possible to secure the area in order to allow them go back to their farming activities.
The governor also commended traditional rulers, local government officials, community leaders and volunteer groups in the area for their sacrifices and support.
While addressing the people, Bagudu further promised them timely completion of the ongoing Dankolo – Sakaba road to ameriolate their plight while transporting their farm produce
He lamented the delay of the road project and warned the contractor to speed up the space of work.
Also speaking, Senator Bala Ibn Na’allah, representing Kebbi South, promised to take up the matter to the appropriate federal authorities and assured of completing the ongoing construction of hospital in the area.
In their separate remarks, the community leaders in the area Alhaji Muhammad Ladan,;Councillor representing the area, Shu’aibu Marafa Dankolo and Village Head of the area, Alhaji Ibrahim Sawane of Marafa Dankolo told the governor that the bandits made their entrance to the village from Zamfara and Niger States to carry out their action.
They told the governor that they had been harassed on daily basis but said normalcy had returned and all the displaced villagers had come back.
They expressed their appreciation over the governor’s prompt action and concern over the plight of the victims.
The displaced villages include Dankolo, Sakaba, Adai, Makabire, Makuku, Maigandu and Janburmi.
