The Senate at plenary Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Dr. Halilu Shaba as the Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).

The approval was sequel to the consideration and adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on March 2, 2021 requested the upper legislative chamber to confirm Shaba as NASRDA DG.

In the letter, Buhari urged the lawmakers to consider his request in the usual expeditious manner.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, had then directed the Committee on Science and Technology to screen the nominee within two weeks.

Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Uche Ekwunife, said the nominee was thoroughly screened and he met the expectations of the lawmakers.

She said: ”The nominee was duly informed that the screening exercise will be thorough to determine his capability to hold the office as the DG of the agency. He was equally informed of the Senate expectation and the nation at large. During the screening exercise, he was interviewed thoroughly, his response to issues raised were satisfactory, and met the expectations of the Senate. He displayed expertise in technology and demonstrated high level of preparedness and capability.”
