Imo, Adamawa, Cross River Have Highest Unemployment Rate

Imo State sits at the top of unemployment table recording the highest unemployment rate of 56.64 per cent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics report.

The Southeast state has a working age population of 3,739,211 and a labour force of 1,946,682. According to the report, 340,034 worked for 40hours+, 504,123 worked for 20-39hours, 493,366 worked for 1-19hours while 609158 did nothing.  The total unemployed in the state is 1,102,525 amounting to 56.64 per cent. The underemployment rate in the state is 25.90 per cent.

The state was closely followed by Adamawa State with  54.89 per cent unemployment rate and 24.67 percent underemployment rate. Adamawa has a working age population of 2,895,303 and a labour force of 1,639,013. A total of 334,964 woked for 40hours+, 404,413 worked for 30-39hours, 175,388 worked for 1-19hours, while 724,248 did nothing.

Cross  Rivers  has an unemployment rate of  53.65 per cent with a total unemployed number of 998,203 and underemployment rate of 17.81 percent. The state has a working age population of 2,531,503 and a labour force of 1,860,552. According to the report, 531,024 worked for 40hours+, 331,325 worked for 20-39hours, 314,315 worked for 1-19hours while 683,888 did nothing.

On the other hand, Osun, Benue and Zamfara recorded the lowest unemployment rates  with 11.65 per cent, 11.98 per cent and 12.99 per cent respectively.
For underemployment, Benue  recorded the highest rate with 43.52 per cent, followed by Zamfara and Jigawa with 41.73 per cent and 41.29 per cent respectively.
