A first class traditional ruler in Ondo State, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Folagbade Olateru -Olagbegi, has joined his ancestors.

Though, there are no official information from the palace yet on the demise of the first class monarch, THISDAY gathered that he died Tuesday night.

A family source, who spoke on condition of anonymity disclosed that the Olowo died on Tuesday at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State during a brief illness.

As at the time of filing this report, elders of the ancient town were holding a meeting in the ancient palace.

When contacted, an official of the Ondo State Government said they got information that the monarch passed on late Tuesday.

However, the official said the government could not deny or confirm the story until there was an official announcement from the palace by kingmakers.

The late monarch, 77, it was gathered, was the eldest son of his late father, Sir Olateru Olagbegi.

He was given his staff of office on December 11, 2003 by the late Governor Olusegun Agagu.

Olateru-Olagbegi, a lawyer, was appointed Chancellor of the University of Benin in 2005 and later Chancellor, University of Abuja.

He was until his death the Chancellor of University of Jos.
