Who is after Tokunbo Abiru?

When Tokunbo Abiru was appointed Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of ailing Skye Bank Plc.( now Polaris Bank), no one was in doubt that he has the managerial skill and expertise to turn it around.

Not long after he assumed office, he proved pundits wrong that age is not a factor when it comes to efficient service delivery and well-focused administration, even in the face of persistent oppositions from both within his bank and other financial services providers.

But as proof of his brilliance, the apex bank retained him alongside other members of the board to continue the leadership of Polaris Bank, after the crash of Skye Bank.

Since then, the  astute 55-year-old banker is closing all the gaps that can affect his position as the leader, and there are indications that everything is working perfectly well for him.

But it seems some people are hell- bent on seeing the downfall of the man who has showcased his wizardry, as there  has been what our source described as a “campaign of calumny against him.”

Society Watch gathered that in the past one week,  negative stories have been in circulation allegedly sponsored by some elements with the aim of pulling him down.

In one of the wicked lies in a section of the media, the shareholders of the bank accused the current management of conniving with the CBN to allegedly defraud them of their investment with the takeover of Skye Bank Plc by Polaris Bank

They claimed that they are at the risk of losing an estimated N10.69 billion, being the value of the funds.

They  are also calling for the sack of the MD and the entire management of the bank.

But in a chat with Society Watch,  a top banker who spoke on the condition of anonymity said: ‘’ The MD and the entire management have done extremely good; otherwise,  the  CBN wouldn’t have entrusted Polaris bank in their hands.
