Abia’s Frightening Explosion

Abia’s Frightening Explosion

Sixteen persons, including a soldier, reportedly died last week in Abia State following a pipeline explosion in two villages in Osisioma Local Government Area of the state.

Commander of the Abia State Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Benito Eze, who said he visited the scene around 4a.m., described the incident as unfortunate, claimed the incidence happened when some youths in the area tried to scoop petroleum products from vandalised pipelines.

Although there was another reported fire incident in the same state from a private property in Umuimo village, which claimed three, incidences of explosions are becoming too rife and they question the disposition of the authority to safety.

The pipeline explosion was both frightening and disturbing and exposes the kind of value placed on life in this part of the world. Besides, constant reports on avoidable deaths cut the image of a nation still living in the Dark Age. This cannot continue unaddressed!
