Two people feared dead as a speed boat conveying twelve persons across River Benue on Tuesday capsized at Karim-Lamido in Taraba State.

The boat, which took off from Karim Lamido and was heading to Lau was said to have overturned after its driver lost control on high speed.

Ten people were however, rescued by divers and are receiving treatment while the search for the remaining two bodies is still ongoing as at the time of filling the report.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), David Misal, confirmed the rescue of the persons by divers and assured that the search for the two bodies would be intensified.

Narrating the incident to THISDAY in a telephone interview, Sunday Gabriel, who witnessed the accident, said it was caused by a loss of control by the driver.

He noted that they were able to rescue the survivors due to the presence of divers who are permanently stationed at both sides of the river.

“This is a very great calamity but we thank God that the divers who are always at the sides of the river were able to rescue ten of them alive but we are still searching for the remaining two persons.
