Former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, is Dead

Former United Nations Secretary General and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Kofi Annan, is dead. He was aged 80.

Annan, who died in a hospital in Bern, Switzerland in the early hours of Saturday, was the 7th secretary general of the UN.

Born on April 8, 1938 in Kumasi Ghana, Annan, served as UN secretary general between 1997 and 2006.

A statement from his official twitter handle @KofiAnnan said: “It is with immense sadness that the Annan family and the Kofi Annan Foundation announce that Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate passed away peacefully on Saturday 18th August after a short illness….
